Rankings Comparison 2/8

For the first time all year, all three polls have the top four the same as the Courant, the lone holdout with Hamden continually at #3, flip flops NDWH and Hamden.  Darien skyrockets up all the polls coming in 5,6,5 respectively.  Both the Courant and CTHSHockey like Simsbury's recent hot run while the Register is still skeptical.  The question mark teams are still East Haven and Xavier as neither has really won a definitive game.  That will come to an end Thursday when they meet at DiLungo.  The biggest disparity would be West Haven.  The Register has them as #5 while the Courant has them #9 showing a regional bias.  We have them #6 inches behind Darien.

    Luke,
    Good work on the blog. I've really enjoyed what you've been doing and all the retweets. It's good stuff. However, you make a comment about regional bias. I'm curious as to how you have come to this conclusion that the Courant ratings have a regional bias but the other two don't? Wouldn't all three have some sort of bias if one does? Why is it that just The Courant is bias? I take a little offense at that comment. I have done the ratings for five years and I have never used regional bias in my ratings. For those that know me and have seen the ratings the last five years, they will agree. This is my honest assessment. I see a lot of games and talk to a lot of coaches and I make my selections based on what I see and the results. Glastonbury, Xavier and Simsbury are all ahead of West Haven at the moment because I believe they are better teams. Not to mention Simsbury beat West Haven three week ago. So as far as I see it the Trojans earned that edge. But that's my call. I just think we should be careful about using the term regional bias. It's a blanket statement. I could easily say the same about another poll throughout the season and I'm not talking about yours. But I don't. And there would be a lot more truth there.     Matthew, thanks for reading. I just reread what I wrote and it came across differently than I had intended. If anything I'd be referring to the Register with the bias more than the Courant. They've always held West Haven higher than they deserve to be held at times. You can simply look at the rankings and see that yours and mine see more eye to eye than mine does with the Register's. I'm sorry that you interpreted my comment that way but understand that's not how it was intended. I commend you for including Simsbury in your poll as the Register still seems to be nonbelievers.

    Thanks Luke. I appreciate the quick response. We're fine. And in fact, I think we agree on mostly everything. I had noticed your rankings and that's why I found the comment a little odd. We usually have pretty the same picks. Anyhow, keep up the good work.
