Ended up having a decent week after a bad Wednesday. Going 0-2 on Hamden picks hurt but all of the games I pick should be close ones so I'm not heartbroken with a 9-5-1 week. Here goes... 15 more.
Elite Predictions: Mark these on the calendar
Last Week: (9-5-1) Season: (29-20-2)
Housy still sits atop the D3 standings after a 7-1 start. The lone blemish, a 5-3 loss to Sheehan. Think the co-op wants some payback? They may, but I don't think it matters. Titans in this one. Sheehan 4, Housy 3
1/15 West Haven @ Fairfield Prep 6:00 @ Wonderland of Ice
I am believing more and more in the Westies. Prep is also playing their best hockey of the year going 4-0-1 in their last five. The Westies can make a run this year but I don't think they beat Prep at the Wonderland, but wouldn't it turn everything upside down if they did? Prep 5, West Haven 2
1/15 New Fairfield-Immaculate @ Newtown 7:50 @ Danbury Ice Arena
Newtown is probably one of the top two teams at the D3 level and have what many people are now calling the best player at the D3 level in Jonathan Lovorn. NFI is coming off a tough loss to Wilton. Nighthawks are too much in this one. Newtown 6, NFI 4
1/15 North Haven @ New Milford 8:00 @ Canterbury Rink
This is an intriguing matchup. New Milford has won four straight. North Haven has won six straight. I think the Indians are the deeper team and have been challenged more than the Wave at this point. North Haven 3, New Milford 2
1/15 Northwest Catholic @ Newington-Berlin 8:20 @ Newington Ice Arena
This is a hard one to call. NWC has struggled of late losing three of their last five with the only wins coming over D3's Hall-Southington and D2's Farmington Valley. Newington-Berlin is coming off a big win over rival BCR. I'll go with Newington-Berlin here. New-Ber 3, NWC 2
NDWH and Xavier for brunch, I'll take it. Xavier is the hardest team to predict in the state. They show up and compete with the best of em and then lay eggs. NDWH is a little easier to predict. Give me the Knights to continue their hot streak. NDWH 5, Xavier 2
1/18 North Haven @ Branford 4:40 @ Northford Ice Pavilion
These, in my opinion are the best two D2 teams, with East Catholic narrowly missing the cut. Branford outshot the Indians by a large margin last time they met, a North Haven victory. I think Branford evens the score this time. Branford 4, North Haven 3
1/18 West Haven @ South Windsor 5:45 @ South Windsor Arena
West Haven is the better team in this one not doubt, but the Bobcats are tough at home. I'll take Mike Savino and his rag tag group of grinders to win big. West Haven 6, South Windsor 2
In a game that I'll be traveling quite a distance to witness, the Bucks have their shot at one of D3's best. You have to beat the best to be the best, right? Well, in front of what is sure to be a rowdy Bucks Nation, I think they do just that. Upset special. Bucks 5, Newtown 4
1/18 Glastonbury @ Northwest Catholic 7:30 @ ISCC
A good low end D1 matchup at the ISCC. I think Glastonbury has played better of late but Northwest Catholic is due. The Indians take this one in a game that could be big in terms of these teams battling for home ice in the playoffs. NWC 3, Glastonbury 1
Hendricken, the winner of the Mt. St. Charles Holiday FaceOff is sitting pretty at (8-0-1) on the year. One of those wins came over Prep. NDWH could be the best team in the state right now. I hope they win. I really do and when it's a game against an out of state team, I'm allowed to. BUT, I don't see Hendricken losing. BH 3, NDWH 2
1/20 Suffield-Granby-WL @ East Catholic 1:00 @ Champions Skating Center
I liked Suffield-Granby-WL and what they'd been able to do to start this year. That was until they laid an egg against Conard in a game I thought they'd have. East Catholic is right up there with the best of D2 and they've already beaten 3 D1 teams. Sounds like a recipe for disaster for Suffield. EC 4, S-G-WL 3
1/20 Amity @ Glastonbury 2:00 @ Trinity College Rink
Amity has been fighting it lately. They play a hard schedule, I'm not taking anything away from that but they don't seem like the same on a night to night basis. Glastonbury should be able to take this one, though I wouldn't be surprised if the Spartans showed up. Tomahawks 4, Amity 2
1/20 Don Bosco Prep (NJ) @ Fairfield Prep 6:00 @ Wonderland of Ice
Bosco comes in 5-2-1. Prep should be able to handle them. Jesuits cruise in this one. Prep 3, DB 0
1/20 Xavier @ New Canaan 4:10 @ Darien Ice Rink
New Canaan showed some signs of life against Darien Saturday. This concludes a brutal week for Xavier that sees them play the Rams, Simsbury and NDWH. They could be worn out by this one. Give me the Rams. New Canaan 4, Xavier 3
